Worry About Your Single Bridesmaid?
Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Isn’t that the way the old saying goes?
For the single bridesmaid, it is very easy to feel that way. A wedding brings up all sorts of feelings for everyone involved. The bride and groom are excited, their parents are nostalgic for their own weddings, and everyone feels joyful for the happy couple.
But, for the bridesmaid who is single, a friend’s wedding day can be a mixed bag of feelings. Of course she is excited for her friend, but she may also feel sad that it isn’t her time, and anxious about if it will ever be her turn to be the center of attention.
Some brides worry that if they choose a single woman for a bridesmaid, that she might feel bitter about being a single bridesmaid. It would be understandable that the bridesmaid might feel that way.
A bridesmaid is involved in all aspects of the wedding planning, from helping to pick out the dress, to helping to plan the bachelorette party. It is natural that in the middle of all that planning and decision making that she might start to evaluate her life, and wonder if she has made the right choices.
If the single bridesmaid is preoccupied, the bride might worry that she is bitter. However, the bridesmaid might just be dealing with her life. She is likely a busy person herself, trying to keep her job and life running smoothly, while holding her friend’s hand.
The only way that the bride can know if her friend is bitter is to ask her friend how she’s doing. She should also be prepared to hear her bridesmaid’s honest answer. The bridesmaid will probably tell the bride that she has torn feelings. She is happy for her friend, but concerned about the way her own life is going.
There is no reason for a bride to avoid choosing her single friends for bridesmaids. Most women who are a single bridesmaid will never be bitter, and feel true happiness for her friend, even while being thoughtful about her own life.
So, if you have a single friend, ask her to be part of your special day without worry. Just keep in mind your friend’s feelings too.
